Last year many media groups quoted Martyn Jones MP who stated that there is over £20billion in unclaimed assets in financial institutions in the United Kingdom.
The Daily Telegraph used the case of a Mr. Stephen Morris who had
moved address many times. Mr. Morris used FundsReunited and found Premium Bonds
that he had forgotten all about. Mr. Morris expressed how easy the search with
Fundsreunited was and how useful he found the service.
The Daily Express urged consumers to lay claim to money that is
legitimately theirs in an article on the 16th March 2005. In the
same article they reported on a client of FundsReunited, who we reunited with
over £60,000.
John Husband of the Daily Mirror brought to peoples attention, in
his exclusive article on the 8th June 2005, that more than half a million
people are missing out on ‘windfall’ shares or cash that they are entitled to.
This money/shares results from the demutualisation or privatisation of many
companies during the 1980s and 1990s. He emphasised that you should make your
claim – in case there is a deadline as there was with Abbey National shares.
On Saturday the 11th June 2005 The Scotsman raised
questions about what the Chancellor was planning to do with your money, the
investors who had not claimed their cash from banks and building societies in
accounts now deemed dormant. They detailed case studies and referred to
FundsReunited as a company that offered an easy solution for people searching
for lost or abandoned assets.
David Prosser of The Independent has written on the subject on a
number of occasions. In his article published on the 3rd September
2005, he refers to Simon Ford of FundsReunited, who stated that many people
could not believe they had lost money and how important it is to explain to
people how money is lost and how they can claim money that is legitimately
theirs.
There are numerous articles including in the Financial Times, The Sun, The
Guardian, the Daily Mail and on many ‘news’ websites that have
reported on and debated what the Chancellor (Government) intends to do with
money which is deemed to be dormant. It is widely reported that they believe
the money should be used for good causes, but how they intends to get the money
from Banks and Building Societies is still unclear.
Simon Ford of FundsReunited was interviewed on BBC Breakfast
TV in 2004, where he explained why people should consider doing a
search for themselves or a deceased relative
